The AOPA Registered Agent is coming soon to help you comply with the FAA’s new rules that require pilots and other airmen to designate a U.S. Agent for Service to receive safety-critical and time-sensitive FAA documents.

 

Designed for members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the IAOPA Affiliate members, but available to pilots and FAA certificate holders around the world, our service will offer:

Who needs to designate a U.S. Agent for Service under the new FAA rules?

Individuals with addresses outside the United States and no United States physical address of record on file with the Federal Aviation Administration who hold or apply for certain certificates, ratings, or authorizations are required to designate a United States Mail Agent for service of Federal Aviation Administration documents.

This includes individuals such as:

  • Student pilots

  • Pilots

  • Flight instructors

  • Ground instructors

  • Flight engineers

  • Navigators

  • Flight attendants​

  • Air-traffic control-tower operators

  • Aircraft dispatchers

  • Mechanics

  • Repairmen

  • Parachute riggers

  • First, Second, and Third Class Medical Certificate holders

  • Part 107: Small UAS remote pilots

FAA Compliance Deadlines
  • April 2, 2025, for applicants

  • July 7, 2025, for current certificate, rating, or authorization holders

  • Individuals who fail to timely designate a U.S. agent for service to comply with FAA’s new rule may not exercise the privileges of their FAA certificate, rating, or authorization. 

  • If an aircraft owner fails to comply, the aircraft’s registration certificate will be considered ineffective.
